Position Summary and Responsibilities:

The primary duty of the Mechanic DOT position is to perform preventative maintenance on fleet equipment as assigned by the Fleet Manager or Night supervisor. This position also performs repairs on fleet equipment as requested. This position requires a commercial driver's license.

  • Perform scheduled and routine maintenance on a wide range of equipment including: tractors, trailers, refrigeration units, forklifts, pallet jacks, cars, and vans 
  • Provide on-site maintenance for branch locations that do not have fleet shops
  • Prioritize multiple, competing priorities
  • Ensure company equipment is in safe, working condition; reports any incidents or unsafe conditions immediately to supervisor
  • Operate all company equipment safely and in a manner consistent with company policy  Ensure work area is organized, clean, and free of trash
  • Attend meetings as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Able to coordinate multiple activities and follow through with commitments
  • Good oral and written communication skills and participate well in a team environment 
  • Must be highly motivated and results oriented, with a strong attention to detail
  • Must be organized with the ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Must be able to read and write English
  • Must be at least 21 yrs. or older 
  • Position requires a Texas Class A CDL driver’s license with a clean MVR
  • High school graduate or GED required

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to learn and use relevant internal computer applications
  • Ability to operate/drive single axle truck with 27 ft. trailer
  • Must be willing to work odd hours and shift work (nights).
  • Must be able to walk extensively
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time usually for 8-10 hours
  • Must be able to bend at the waist; stoop to reach and squat to lift heavy items in a proper manner and operate lift assisting devices.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to sit, stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance.
  • Must be able to lift 30-60 lbs repetitively and heavier items weighing up to 100 lbs occasionally and frequently push or pull three-hundred (300) pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have normal use of shoulders, arms, wrist, hands, feet and legs.
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions.
